A Day in Milan with the UEFA Championship Party!
After settling in to our great hotel it was time to explore the city! This was the first time Katie or I had been to Milan so we were excited to experience it for the first time.
Our trip so far:
We really only had one day there so we tried to explore what we could but as I mentioned in the previous post, the UEFA Champions League Final was the next day so the city was crazy! Instead of paying or waiting in a long line to see the Duomo or other places, we spent our day walking around and enjoying the great festivities!
The main square in front of the Duomo was the epicenter of the celebration with tons of signs, tents for different companies, a stage with a band and the Championship trophy on display!!
You could actually wait in line and get your picture taken with the trophy, but as I mentioned, we were there for 1 day so we weren’t interested in any lines haha.
The celebration continued down the road at the north-west side of the square where there were more games, food, drinks, sponsor stalls, etc. This continued all the way down to Sforzesco Castle, where there were little soccer games going on inside!
Needless to say, there was a ton of energy in the city and it was nice to just be out and about experiencing it.
We did do some typical Milan things like take too many pictures of the Duomo, go to the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II and turned our heels on the bull’s nether regions (this is a symbolic thing against Torino, historically Milan’s big rival and supposed to be good luck).
I have to admit, I was a little surprised by Milan. It was different than I expected, but saying that I guess I really didn’t know what to expect. I have been to Rome, Florence and Venice, and Milan is much much different than these other cities. It turns out that Milan is exactly what Katie expected and I thought she kind of characterized it pretty well. She said that she thought it was going to be an Italian Paris, which actually is a really good way to describe it.
I am really glad we were able to spend the day in Milan and it is certainly a city that I would be interested in going back to for a few days to explore more. With that being said, I was also very excited for the next aspects of our trip: EMIRATES FIRST CLASS on an A380!
That review up next!!
