How well do you know the world?
While waiting for some labs and x-rays on a patient Sunday night I started looking at the Travel section on BBC.com and found something really cool!
They have a game called Geoguesser, and it’s awesome!!
The premise is that you are placed somewhere in the world in Google Maps street view and by looking around you have to figure out where you are!
Once you have an idea of where you are, you click on the map in the bottom right corner and click the “Make a guess” button.
You are then awarded points based on how far in kilometers you are from the actual location. You go to 5 locations and then you get your total point score after guessing all 5. The number you’re on is seen in the top right corner.
Some are a little harder than others and not just because of location. The reason is that although most will put you on a road so that you can travel and see a larger area and maybe a sign, there are some that drop you in a spot and all you can do it rotate around.
You can also challenge people and set time limits. These challenges will give the people involved the same locations to see who get the higher score.
As you can see by some of the screen shots below, they could drop you anywhere from middle of nowhere Alaska to a suburb somewhere.
As a travel nerd I LOVE this game! It is a fun way to learn more about the world and see places that I may never see or even had thought to visit.
This is the score from the second time I played! (Just a few points better than my first game).
Have any of you scored better?!? What is your highest score?
