Lounge Review: American Airlines Admirals Club Washington DC (DCA) Terminal C
As you may have noticed a time or two here on PointsMD, we do quite a few American Airlines Admiral Club reviews. There are a couple reason for this. First, we both have access to them the vast majority of the time and we are going there anyway so we might as well review them. Some might ask, “But aren’t a lot of them really similar?” Well, yes, many of them are but for other people like Joe and I who love to look at every airport, airplane and lounge online before arriving we thought that these would at least give those few people a peek at their upcoming lounge.
ANWAY, on to the review!
Katie and I were traveling back to IL through Washington DC from our home town in Maryland after spending the New Years holiday with our family and were leaving out of Terminal C. With no idea how bad the Sunday after the holidays would be in terms of security, we got there fairly early but ended up breezing through in maybe 5 minutes with our PreCheck. This allowed us more than enough time to hang out in the Admirals Club located at the beginning of the terminal.
This lounge is located on the second floor and can be accessed by an elevator to your left immediately after going through security.
When arriving at the second floor there is a large check in desk before entering the lounge.
Immediately upon entering there is a closet and then lots of the snacks in the first seating area which includes coffee, water, soup, cookies, fruit, veggies, cheeses and dip.
Looking through the first seating area you see another seating area behind the Departures board where there is a mounted TV and the bar to the right, with windows to the rest of the airport on the farthest wall. As usual there were free soft drinks, wine, beer and mixed drinks available at the bar.
As you enter this bar area there is another seating area to your left that has windows along all three walls with two looking to the outside and one into the airport terminal. I love windows.
Continuing further into the bar area you find a row of chairs at the back and then a hall to the right leading to the bathrooms and a business center work area, which also has windows to the outside.
As I said before, this is very much your typical Admirals Club in many senses but there were a few things I liked about it over a few other standard ACs I have been to. The main thing was the windows! Whether it was to the outside or into the terminal, there were windows on three sides of the lounge letting in some degree of natural light. I much prefer natural light and if I can’t be outside, then I would like to see the outside!
In the end this lounge was nothing to get to the airport early for and is exactly what I have come to expect from ACs, a comfortable place to wait for my flight. But, I will say the windows, being on the 2nd floor and the spaciousness help me rank this over several other AC lounges including Terminal B lounge at CLT , a couple of the PHL clubs and I’m sure a few more if I went back and looked.
