Lounge Review: Cathay Pacific “The Pier” First Class Lounge- Hong Kong (HKG)
So this is a lounge that Joe reviewed a few months ago but now it was my turn to check it out and give my take on it! There are also some thing that he did, like a massage that we weren’t able to do and some things I saw, like the sleep rooms that he didn’t. Also, who doesn’t want to see more pictures of one of best airport lounges in the world!
Anyway, after we got off our flight from Siem Reap we had about 4 hours to kill before our flight to Tokyo so we were excited to go checkout The Pier! We had previously been to The Wing First Class Lounge but this had newly opened since we were last in HKG.
Here is the trip so far!
The lounge is located near Gate 63 which was not all that close to our gate but as I said before we really had plenty of time so we didn’t mind walking to it.
It was also during Chinese New Year so there were little monkeys on top of some of the gate signs.
After the long walk from our arrival gate we were finally there!
As you can see from the escalator, the lounge is located a level below the gate area which is the opposite of The Wing which is located a level above the gate area.
Upon getting to the bottom of the escalator there is a check-in desk where we ran into a bit of a delay which I had expected. The problem we ran into was that we were actually leaving HKG in Business Class on Cathay Pacific since there was no First Class on our flight and then connecting in Tokyo where we would take Japan Airlines First Class back to The States.
I knew that it was the class of your over water or longest haul segment that determines your lounge access but I assumed the front desk probably didn’t run into that situation very often. However, after a quick check with their manager we were allowed access.
Upon entering the lounge you can turn left to go to the bar area or walk down the hall to the right to enter the restaurant. About midway between the bar and restaurant is the area to sign up for a foot massage as well as the daybed rooms and shower rooms. Our first stop was in the restaurant to get some dinner. It was about 10pm Hong Kong time at this point.
The hostess sat us near the window and handed us the menus for our free, delicious meal!
We each started with a glass of Monet & Chandon Rose Brut champagne and appetizers of Black Pepper Seared Tuna and Fragrant Chicken which were both awesome!
After that Katie and I both ordered the Angus Beef Burger which was great and followed it with some cookies and cream ice cream!
After an awesome dinner we headed over to book a massage but there were no openings during our time there so that kind of stunk, but not that big of a deal. Each guest gets a complimentary 10 minute foot massage which Joe got during his visit.
Our next stop was the day bed sleep rooms which is a little private room with a little bed, side table, mirror and large window.
After the daybed room I checked out the shower rooms and some other areas while Katie went to grab us some seats at the bar.
Besides the restaurant their is also the “Pantry” where there are plenty of treats set out to eat as well as coffee, soda and beer. This area is located to your left just before entering the bar area.
Across the hall is a seating area and more to the right of that is the business center.
Finally it was time to grab a seat at the bar with Katie and have some drinks! Katie was already there and had some champagne ready to go!
We had a great stay in this lounge and it is easily one of the best lounges that I have ever been to. Comparing it to THE WING is difficult because they are just very different lounges but if I had to pick one I would say that The Pier is better.
The clean cut, simple luxury design of the lounge coupled with a delicious restaurant, plentiful, comfortable seat and a beautiful hall and bar easily makes this one of the better lounges in the world. Couple that with free foot massages, large shower rooms and large private day bed rooms definitely places it as one of the top lounges I have been to, if not the top lounge.
Next up is our Regional Business Class flight on Cathay Pacific to Tokyo!
