Before landing in Male we were given some fast-track cards to get through passport control faster, but we were a bit surprised to find a member of the Park Hyatt Maldives at the door to the airport when we arrived who walked us to the passport control counter! Once we were through he escorted us to the baggage claim and got us a cart for our luggage and loaded it. Then it was a quick line through customs to meet our next escort!
Park Hyatt Honeymoon Trip Report:
Our second escort was holding a Park Hyatt Maldives sign when we made it through customs and he was great! Our first escort was very quiet but this second gentleman was very nice and talkative. They each wheeled one of our bags as we carried our carry-ons from the international terminal to the domestic terminal where we would catch our Maldivian Airlines flight.
Once inside the second gentleman (on the right in the pictures) explained that he would drop us off at the lounge, go get our tickets and then pick us up from the lounge when it was time to board our flight. Right away, I was already pretty impressed with the Park Hyatt Maldives and we hadn’t even arrived there yet!
Once entering the closest door in the domestic terminal, you take the elevator on your right to the 2nd floor where the Moonimaa Lounge is located.
Upon entering, the Park Hyatt representative talked to the front desk and the lounge attendant gave us a tour of the lounge and told us to find a seat and relax. Our PH guy (this will be his name from now on) then asked for our passports so he could go get our boarding passes.
Looking around the lounge you will see lots of seating all in basically a large room with just one semi divider in the middle of it. There are a few TVs scattered around as well as tons of Maldives resort advertising magazines everywhere.
Off in the back right corner were some finger foods and snacks as well as beer, soda and a coffee machine.
The food looked OK, but with the amount of flies buzzing around the lounge and likely landing on the food every few seconds I decided I wasn’t that hungry. I did have a soda and an espresso which were just fine.
Also in the lounge is a Children’s play area and a Spa at which you can purchase treatments.
After about 45 minutes in the lounge our PH guy came up to fetch us and 2 other couples for our flight to Kooddoo Island where we would be picking up our boat to the Park Hyatt!
We had access to the lounge because we were staying at the Park Hyatt Maldives but you can also gain access if you have Priority Pass, which you can get as a benefit of the American Express Platinum or Citi Prestige cards. This wasn’t a great lounge by any means and I was a little nervous about eating anything here. With that being said it was perfectly fine to wait in for 45 minutes and was WAY better than the rest of the domestic terminal.
Next up: Our flight and boat ride to paradise!
