Lounge Review: Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse, New York (JFK)

The honeymoon Trip Report has started!

Although I got somewhat nervous about our flight from DCA (as it was delayed for about an hour), I had left us plenty of time with the earlier flight – so no worries.

Bye bye DC! See you in a week and a half!

After the quick flight up from DCA, we arrived at JFK terminal 8 and took the JFK SkyTrain over to terminal 4. Since we were connecting on a separate ticket, we had to go to the Singapore Airlines check in counters and get our golden tickets (Suites Class, that is)!

So excited!

With our golden tickets in hand, we were expedited through security by the woman who checked us in. This was great but in reality completely unnecessary. Nice gesture though!

The quick security line behind us, it was time to head straight to the Clubhouse! It works out pretty well that it’s far down the terminal and close to the departing gate.

The entrance to the Clubhouse is pretty fancy, and I immediately knew that this place was going to live up to all the expectations and high praise I had read about! We were warmly welcomed at the reception desk and brought around the corner and given a brief rundown of what the lounge had to offer.

First impression of the lounge: WOW. It was simply fantastic. I’ll let the pictures do the talking for a little bit and get back with you for a rundown afterwards!

Where we sat to watch football and get some dinner! This seat/couch was very strange with a bunch of little ball cushions put together – but we liked it anyway!

View behind us from the comfy couches on the left side of the lounge where we ate dinner!

Strange pods to sit in between the comfortable couch area and the bar (in the background)

Sweet ceiling-light combination over the bar area!

Can’t get enough of that cool ceiling!

Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse JFK

Pool anyone? We didn’t play as I’m not in the habit of beating my new wife at meaningless games and then having her upset with me for the rest of the evening :)

The tables in front of us slightly to the right as we were facing the TV eating dinner.

You can see our red couch in the background. This was a similar area behind where we were sitting, except it’s couches were “normal” (see: lame) and didn’t have a TV.

Lame couches again. I mean, I guess they’re comfortable, but they lack that certain “it factor” I look for in my airport lounge couches…

Sitting/eating area (in the rear of the last photo) along the windows – decently crowded.

As you can see the in the background of the last photo, there are little pods you can sit in. Here’s said pod. Looks like a comfy little area.

Cool wall cutouts. People love using these cutouts to sleep in…..one day I guess.

Cutout/Nook area is behind this picture on the left (from the entrance) side of the lounge. Our couches are to the left and the entrance to the lounge is on the right around the corner past the model plane and the magazines.

View from the hallways into the bar behind the bars (it’s like a punny inception joke….get it?)

Really cool model plane just after you go past the reception desk.

Food: The food we had in this lounge was the best I had ever had in a lounge up to that point (The Pier was later in the trip – Hint: it was the best EVER).

You can see the menu online here.

Flatbreads: Sweet Italian Sausage (left) and Basil Pesto and Marinated Cherry Tomato (right)

Baked Chicken Wings w/ a sweet thai chili sauce….delicious!

We pretty much ordered off the “Light Bites” and “Flatbreads”. Since we knew that we had the Lobster Thermidor coming up in our Suites Class flight, we just stuck to the smaller foods and they worked just fine!

Drinks: The drink menu can be found in the same place as the food menu, here. They have a full bar and have pretty much any alcohol you could want…except for the beers I wanted. Unfortunately, their “New York State Craft Beers” from the menu were apparently all out…all four of them. I was annoyed by that, until I realized they had everything else I would ever want….I got over it pretty quickly.

Jaime’s cool mixed drink with an ice cup sitting on top…Can’t remember what it was called but it was cool looking and delicious!

Ready to party!

The awesome bar area! Like I said, it’s pretty stacked!

Service: Our entire time in the lounge we received great service. Considering our waitress had what seemed to be 10 or so tables, she did a stellar job. Most of the items she couldn’t get herself, so she was basically waiting on the bar and kitchen the entire time.

Amenities: Besides the pool table, awesome bar, and delicious food and drinks, the Clubhouse had even more! The lounge had multiple nice, large shower rooms and the Clubhouse Spa where you could get a complimentary spa treatment, with one small caveat – you have to be flying in Virgin Atlantic Upper Class to get the complimentary treatment, Singapore Suites passengers have to pay for it.

Overall Conclusion: This has to be one of my favorite lounges – probably second only to The Pier in Hong Kong (that review is coming up). It’s a very well-appointed lounge and I loved the design of it. One of the common reviews I’ve read of the lounge is that it has a great vibe and is just an overall fun place to hangout before a flight; I couldn’t agree more. It can’t be overstated how much I enjoyed the lounge and thought the atmosphere was superb. Even with one of the best flights in the world coming up, I still didn’t want to leave the lounge!

Have you been to The Clubhouse? What’s your favorite part of this awesome lounge?

  1. Just awesome Joe, you make me want to skip my wedding and FF to the honeymoon. I had to go down and grab a beer (Corona lite is all i got) after reading your post! When you went through security did you have to do the liquids, shoes, and laptop out or was it pre-check like experience? Darn thought the spa 15 min treatments were included. My fiance will want a massage so I’ll pony up for that

    • Security at JFK was actually not too bad, Mark! We got put through the expedited line, and even with it jam packed in there, it still only took about 10 minutes. We were able to keep our shoes on and whatnot, so no liquids shoes laptop business! Jaime did want to spend money on the spa treatment considering we were getting a two-hour massage in the Maldives, but if you try it out let us know!

  2. Thanks for the great review. One question so if,you are flying singapore first out of JFK you can access this lounge is that correct?

    • Andrew,

Yes – if you’re in SQ F you have access to this lounge!
