After a short stay in the Moonimaa Lounge it was time to take our puddle jumper to Kooddoo and then our boat ride to the Park Hyatt Maldives! As we talked about in our last post we had an escort from the Park Hyatt Maldives who had directed us to the lounge and then came to fetch us when it was time to board our Maldivian Airlines flight!
When staying at the Park Hyatt Maldives you are charged around $500 a person for transport from Male Airport to the resort. This fee includes the escorts in Male, the lounge, your Maldivian Airlines flights (both ways) and your boat ride from Kooddoo to the island the resort is on (both ways). At first I thought this was crazy, but considering what they provide it actually isn’t that bad. I also used part of the $1,200 worth of Barclay Arrivals points I had accumulated for free when Target was letting you load Target RedCards with a credit card so, it didn’t bother me so much 😉
Park Hyatt Honeymoon Trip Report:
Unlike the international terminal at the Male airport which is surprisingly very nice, the domestic terminal is very minimalist which makes having a lounge to hangout in a necessity. After our escort walked us down to the first floor we proceeded through the short security line quickly and we found that there wasn’t a whole lot to the gate area. It was just really one room with a couple of doors and a few seats. Luckily we were only there for about 5 minutes before walking out the door to the plane so it wasn’t a big deal.
Our ride to Kooddoo was a small Dash-8 plane that was a bit warm, not very comfortable but at least didn’t have duct tape holding it together like our trip back…
Honestly though, we were so excited to get there that you could have put us in a cardboard box and thrown us in with the luggage and we would have been happy!
During the flight the attendant handed out different juices or water to all the passengers and newspapers to only some of the passengers. I assume these are passengers that they knew were locals.
As I said, this wasn’t a comfortable flight but man did it have some great views!
Upon landing we realized that not everyone was getting off as this was just the first of 2 stops for this flight. I have read that there are some flights to this island in which it is the second stop. I don’t know if it made any real difference but I did email the Park Hyatt and asked if we could have a direct flight.
Upon landing on Kooddoo we found a single building which was the island airport.
I thought the domestic terminal at MLE was minimal, but nope, this place wins, by a landslide!
Upon entering the “airport” we were met by Park Hyatt representatives who collected our bags and put them all in one place. Once they had been collected, us and the two other couples were loaded onto an 8-person golf cart.
This golf cart took us to the pier where our boat was waiting and dropped us off. It then returned to collect everyone’s bags.
Once the cart came back with everyone’s belongings it was time to board the boat. The final leg of our journey to paradise. While we waited we were able to see a pretty incredible sunset as well as the other boats in the harbor which appeared to be mainly fishing boats.
Once we boarded we were given life jackets as well as cool towels and cold water to drink. The ride was smooth, lasting around 45 minutes and it ended up being completely dark by the time we arrived which I had anticipated.
Upon arrival we were greeted by the general manager as well as several members of the staff who escorted us down the pier to the resorts. Finally, we had made it!!!
