Our 1st Airbnb experience! Awesome stay in Santorini, Greece!
After our busy day in Athens seeing the sights, it was time to head for some island relaxation on Santorini! When searching for a place to stay I had looked at tons of sites and knew that there really weren’t any worthwhile points redemptions so I decided to check out Airbnb for the first time, and I am really glad I did!
Our trip so far:
Luckily around this same time, American Express was having a great offer of $50 credit back from Airbnb purchases of $100 or more, which worked for Airbnb gift cards as well. So what did I do? Bought FIVE $100 gift cards on five different American Express cards with the offer, of course!
This effectively gave me an immediate $250 discount on our stay to go along with the $25 new sign up discount I got from a referral link (this link will actually give people $35 for 1st time users). This $275 savings dropped the price to about $170 a night for our three nights – which was awesome! The reason it was awesome is because we stayed at the Blu Blanco Cave House which is a truly fantastic place with an unbelievable host! The house is located right in the middle of the town of Oia and a short walk to anything you would want to do in town. Prime location at the end of May for that price? Awesome!
Kostas met us at the drop-off point and assisted us with our bags into the house, located on the side of the cliff over looking the caldera! Turn right at the Greek flag and down the winding paths past the blue dome down to the cave!
It wasn’t a big place but it was more than enough for Katie and I, and would have been fine with another couple there as well. There was a living room, 2 bedrooms, small kitchen and bathroom with shower. The only part that we weren’t thrilled with was the tiny shower, but it still worked just fine.
But the best part of the house was the balcony and the view!!
Not only that, but you know those blue domes that are in most of the Santorini pictures you see? Those main 3 domes are right next to the place!!
Our host also owns a coffee shop on the other side of town, near the old fort (where everyone goes for the sunset). We went there several times for breakfast or just for some crepes and drinks after dinner. Each time he had some excuse why we couldn’t pay and gave us our meals for free! Unbelievably kind and I just had to leave some extra money for him when we left.
Needless to say, our first Airbnb experience was an overwhelming success and I would recommend the Blu Blanco Cave House to anyone visiting Santorini.
In the next post I will talk about our time in Santorini and the awesome little town of Oia!
