Grand Daddy Hotel, Airstream Trailer Park!
This is a bit of a blast from the past for me but it came to mind the other day so I wanted to share this really cool hotel experience! This is not really a hotel review but just a heads up about a really unique room.
Almost 4 years ago I was in Cape town, South Africa with two of my very good friends. We arrived there after previously being in Malawi and had booked a really unique hotel room that we had read about before arriving. A rooftop Airstream trailer at the Grand Daddy Hotel!

This hotel is right in downtown Cape town and has a very “hip” vibe to it. Upon arriving we found a very friendly front desk and a stylish lobby complete with an office desk in the corner on which there was a giant iMac which I used to iChat with my family. During our stay breakfast was also provided in their simple, rustic feeling restaurant.
We had been staying mostly in hostels while in South Africa so this was a 1 night splurge just to have the experience. At the time we booked the room it was $285 (we booked the largest trailer) which was not bad divided by 3 but still a lot more than the hostels we had been staying in. So up to the top floor we went! The trailer park has a roof top deck, a very large movie screen with stage and 7 trailers.
We stayed in the Moon Tide Trailer which was one of the many themes. Although it was a little cramped for 3 people, even in their largest room (the others are studio style), this was still an awesome stay and definitely one of the most unique hotel rooms I have ever seen. What makes it especially unique is being right downtown in a major city!
Now that I have shown you all these pictures of the inside, you can wipe them out of your brain, because the Airstreams have been upgraded!! Going to the hotel website today you can see that each of them have been redesigned and renamed, and honestly, I think it is for the better. I was not a huge fan of the all the glitz and glitter. They seem to have gotten rid of all the sparkles and went with a simple, rustic design with clean colors and themes that represent the country like Beach House, Hermanus and Winelands.
If you have a stay coming up in Cape town, South Africa (one of you who jumped on the Christmas Day mistake fare might!) this would be a truly unique and fun stay for a night or two in downtown Cape town!
-A special thanks to Kristen and Lindsay for some of the pictures and staying here with me!
