Want Admirals Club Bag Tags? Cancel your Citi Executive Card!

I applied for the Citi Executive card at the end of June, 2014. The only reason I applied, like most people during that period, was for the 100,000 bonus miles upon a $5,000 spend in 3 months. Those points ended up being crucial for my amazing honeymoon trip!

But, unlike most people, I actually kept the card into the second year, and paid the fee again – I coughed up the $450 dollars. It worked out pretty well as I had a lot of layovers in the Charlotte airport, so I couldn’t really complain.

In fact, we’ve reviewed a few of those lounges, including the B Terminal and C Terminal (main lounge).

However, this July I finally decided enough is enough! Pretty much all of my connections are through Charlotte, Miami and Dallas, and most of them are under 70 minutes or so. Plus, when connecting through Miami or Dallas, I can usually jump into the Centurion Lounge via my Amex Platinum card.

I canceled my card in the 3rd week of July. Lo and behold, two weeks later, I get this nifty little gift in the mail from AA:

How could I quit this card with the awesome bag tags??

I’m not sure if this is a new thing that AA is doing for their Admirals Club members or not, but I’ve never received them before. It’s funny to me that after having the card for over two years I get these 2 weeks after I cancel!

Thanks for the letter!

Has anyone else gotten these bags tags in the mail recently? Are they new, or is this just really bad timing between AA and me??

  1. I got mine yesterday, although I’m a little unclear as to what purpose they serve. I haven’t cancelled my card, so no overlap in experiences there.

    • I have had my AA Executive for 1 yr and cancelled before the 2nd year. I’m not sure if those baggage tags are worth the $450.
